Human Primary Friedriech's Ataxia (FA) Fibroblast Cell Line 179 was isolated from a 34 year-old female. Friedriech's ataxia (FRDA) is characterized by an increase in repeats of GAA within the first intron of the gene encoding frataxin.

Propagation
The base medium for this cell line is Prigrow III medium available at abm, Cat. No. TM003. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum (TM999)* to a final concentration of 15%, Penicillin/Streptomycin Solution (G255) to a final concentration of 1%, and MEM Non-Essential Amino Acids Solution (Gibco) to a final concentration of 1X. Filter media prior to use.Carbon dioxide (CO2): 5%, Temperature: 37.0
Applications
For Research Use Only
Subculture Protocol
To subculture cells, remove media, then add PBS to the culture vessel. Gently rinse cells, aspirate off PBS, then add trypsin to cells. Continue subculture proceedure as normal.
