Human Primary Alveolar Epithelial Cells (Type II) are charazterized by small size, cubiodal, alveolar space. These cells have a large and round nucleus with vacuoles present in the cytoplasm. Lectin is present on the cell surface and will react with a-galactose residues. Adjacent cells are connected by tight junctions or intermediate connections. Within the cytoplasm, there is a higher frequency of mitochondria and rough ER. This cell line is a stem cell line of alveolar epithelial cells and can multiply and differentiate into new ATII cells, as well as other upper cells.

Use of PriCoatTM T25 Flasks (G299) or Applied Cell Extracellular Matrix (G422) is required for cell adhesion to the culture vessels. Grow cells in ECM-coated culture vessels unless otherwise specified in the Propagation Requirements below. The base medium for this cell line is Prigrow X medium available at abm, Cat. No. TM4116.Change media every 2-3 days.Carbon dioxide (CO2): 5%, Temperature: 37.0°C.
