SensiStainTM Anti-BSEP Antibody is validated for the detection of bile salt export pump (BSEP) which has a role in the transport of bile acid, taurocholate, and other cholate conjugates across the hepatocyte canalicular membrane. BSEP has been associated with disorders such as, progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 2 (PFIC2) and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis type 2 (BRIC2).Bile Salt Export Pump (BSEP) is a membrane associated protein encoded by the ABCB11 gene – a member of the superfamily ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. BSEP functions as a canalicular bile salt export pump and facilitates the transport of bile acid and other cholate conjugates across the canalicular membrane into the canaliculus. BSEP is associated with progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 2 (PFIC2) and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis type 2 (BRIC2). PFIC2 is an inherited disorder linked to mutations in the BSEP gene that increase the risk of developing cholestatic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma early in life.
