Description	Oct-3/4 (octamer-binding transcription factor-3 & 4), a member of POU transcription factors, was identified as a DNA-binding protein that activates gene transcription via a cis-element containing an octamer motif. It is expressed in early embryonic cells and germ cells and is central to the gene regulatory network responsible for self-renewal, pluripotency, and lineage commitment in embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. Oct3/4 is not expressed in adult tissues. It is the most widely recognized marker of totipotent embryonic stem cells. OCT3/4antibody is a useful aid for classification of specific subtypes of germ cell tumors including seminoma, embryonal carcinoma and intratubular germ cell neoplasia of unclassified type (IGCNU).
