Description	Thyroxine (T4 or tetraiodothyronine) is one of the major hormone secreted by the thyroid gland and triiodothyronine (T3), on a much smaller scale. Thyroxine (T4 or tetraiodothyronine) and triiodothyronine (T3) are generally secreted by normal and neoplastic thyroid follicular cells. However, in thyroid cancer, the iodine content may be 1/100 that of normal thyroid tissue, whereas thyroglobulin is much more abundant, occurring at 1/2 to 1/3 that of a normal thyroid tissue.
