Encoded by the KLK3 gene, the Prostate Specific Antigen is part of the kallikrein family which is a subgroup of serine proteases present in seminal plasma having diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are associated with carcinogenesis and some have potential as novel cancer and other disease biomarkers. Prostatitis and other prostate diseases are associated with mutations in this gene. The Anti-Prostate Specific Antigen antibody is useful in research focusing on the diagnosis and monitoring of prostate carcinoma.
