Description
Specificity: This Polyclonal antibody is directed against human Neurogenin 3 protein. The product was purified from serum by protein A chromatography. Expect reactivity with human Neurogenin 3. Cross-reactivity with Neurogenin 3 from other sources has not been determined.Relevance: Neurogenin3 is a member of the neurogenin subfamily of basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor genes that play an important role in neurogenesis from migratory neural crest cells. Neurogenin3 is also required for the specification of a common precursor of the four pancreatic endocrine cell types. In the course of mouse neurogenesis, Neurogenin2 and Neurogenin1 are expressed in distinct progenitor populations residing in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Mutation analyses demonstrate that Neurogenin1 is required for the determination of neuronal precursors for proximal cranial sensory ganglia and that Neurogenin2 is necessary for the determination of precursors for epibranchial placode-derived sensory neurons. Defects in the Neurogenin3 gene are the cause of congenital malabsorptive diarrhea 4 (DIAR4), an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by generalized malabsorption and a paucity of enteroendocrine cells.
