Encoded by the gene MKI67, the protein recognized by this antibody is a nuclear protein that is associated with cellular proliferation, required to maintain individual mitotic chromosomes dispersed in the cytoplasm following nuclear envelope disassembly. It prevents chromosomes from collapsing into a single chromatin mass by forming a steric and electrostatic charge barrier. The Anti-Ki67 Antibody is useful in obtaining valuable information on the proliferative characteristics of various types of cancer.
