Envelope Glycoprotein E2 is a viral structure protein found in GB virus and is known for its ability to block HIV-1 entry in vitro. Studies have shown that anti-GBV E2 antibodies neutralize and precipitate HIV-1 particles via interactions with a cellular antigen that is present or enriched on HIV-1 gag particles. An antibody raised against GBV E2 shows promising signs to interfere with HIV attachment or fusion and potentially modify HIV-1 disease progression.
