Enhancer of zeste homolog 2, or EZH2, is encoded by the EZH2 gene. EZH2 helps control transcriptional repression of genes that regulate cell differentiation. This makes the gene a usual target for anti-cancer therapy because it is usually involved in cancer cell proliferation. EZH2 is a gene suppressor so many tumor suppressor genes that are normally turned on are turned off when it becomes overexpressed. Other diseases related to this gene are Weaver syndrome and Ezh2-related overgrowth. EZH2 is useful in the field of cancer research particularly in developing different methods of anti-cancer therapy.
