Cytokeratin 14, encoded by the KRT14 gene, is usually found as a heterotetramer with two keratin 5 molecules which form the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. Mutations in this gene are associated with diseases including epidermolysis bullosa simplex and Naegeli-Franceschetti-Jadassohn syndrome. The Anti-Cytokeratin 14 Antibody is useful in distinguishing stratified epithelial cells from simple epithelial cells. This antibody is also able to recognize basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas.
