The DMITF1 encodes a transcription factor that contains a cyclin-D binding domain. Expression of this gene is frequently reduced in 40% of human non-small-cell lung carcinomas due to hemizygous gene deletion, strongly suggesting that this locus is haploinsufficient for tumor suppression. The Cyclin D1 is induced by the oncogenic Ras signalling pathway and functions as a tumor suppressor by activating the transcription of ARF to arrest cell growth or induce apoptosis. Other diseases related with the DMITF1 gene include parathyroid adenomas and mantle-cell lymphoma (MCL). The Anti-Cyclin D1 Antibody is a useful tool in cancer research particularly in studying oncogenesis.
