Description	CD79a, also known as Ig-alpha, mb-1 membrane glycoprotein, is a type I membrane glycoprotein with a total of 226 amino acids and a molecular weight of 47 kD. CD79a forms a heterodimer with CD79b through disulfide-bonds and further forms a complex in a noncovalent fashion with membrane immunoglobulins. Both CD79a and CD79b are expressed almost exclusively on B cells and B-cell neoplasms. In addition, CD79a and CD79b antibodies are useful markers in the evaluation of precursor B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia (pre-B-ALL) because many of these tumors are negative for other B-cell markers, such as CD20 and CD45RA
