Description	Olig2 (Oligodendrocyte lineage transcription factor 2) is a basic helix loop helix (bHLH) transcription factor belonging to group A of the OLIG family. Olig2 has a crucial role during development in specifying the final location of motor neurons and Oligodendrocyte in the spinal cord, along with the development within the hindbrain of somatic motor neurons. It is strongly expressed in Oligodendrocytes and in developing astrocytes. Olig2 is a potential diagnostic marker for oligodendrogliomas and can be used in a panel for astrocytomas.
