Background
Layilin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the LAYN gene. Layilin is a type I transmembrane protein that acts as a receptor for hyaluronan. It has an extracellular C-type lectin domain and a 123 aa cytoplasmic domain that interacts with the cytoskeleton. The amino acid sequence of recombinant human Layilin is 85%, 82%, 80%, 79% and 76% identical to that of hamster, canine, bovine, mouse and rat.
